Top Cisco, Oracle, Sun, and EMC Reseller Targets Growing Demand for Data Privacy and Compliance

Boston, MA—July 18, 2006—Guardium, the database security company, today announced that ITOCHU TECHNO-SCIENCE Corporation (CTC), a $2 billion systems integrator with nearly 3,000 employees, has selected Guardium SQL Guard to deliver real-time database monitoring, auditing, and security solutions to its Japanese customers.

One of the top five companies in Japan’s information services industry and one of the largest IT resellers worldwide, CTC will sell and support Guardium’s family of network appliances to organizations that want to enhance data security and privacy without impacting the reliability or performance of their existing enterprise application.

Japan’s Personal Data Protection Act, which became effective in 2005, has spurred companies to seek robust solutions that protect sensitive personal information from unauthorized access by both insiders and outsiders. In addition to following legal mandates, Japanese organizations recognize that data breaches could tarnish their corporate value, brand reputations, and standing in society.

Another key market driver is “J-SOX”, also known as the Internal Control Reporting System, which goes into effect in April 2008. As with U.S. Sarbanes-Oxley ("SOX") regulations, this new regulation requires Japanese businesses to establish tighter internal controls around financial data and continuously monitor the effectiveness of those controls.

Guardium systems are already installed at major Japanese organizations such as the National Hospital Organization (Kobe Medical Center), where they protect patients’ private information, including electronic medical charts. Guardium’s technology has previously been sold and supported by AIR Company Ltd., based in Tokyo, who will continue acting as a master reseller for Guardium.

“As companies focus on building top-to-bottom security infrastructures for protecting their critical data, we are seeing increased demand for Guardium’s proven and scalable technology,” said Tohru Nakano, Executive Vice-President and COO, Telecom Systems Group, CTC. “We are very excited about adding Guardium’s network appliance solution to our security and compliance offering, because it helps customers centrally monitor and enforce database security policies while also reducing IT costs. Guardium’s technology rounds out our offering and provides CTC customers with an important competitive advantage.”

Guardium’s technology delivers strategic business value by enhancing operational efficiency, in addition to assuring security and compliance. By providing a unified cross-platform solution for heterogeneous database environments – including Oracle, IBM, Microsoft, and Sybase – and an automated workflow for centralized compliance monitoring and reporting, Guardium’s solution delivers rapid ROI and increased IT productivity compared to traditional manual approaches. The Guardium solution includes a best practices library of pre-configured security policies and reports – for regulations such as SOX, Basel II, and data privacy laws – which can easily be extended to meet new or evolving regulatory requirements.

“We are honored that CTC, Japan’s premier distributor of technology solutions, has chosen Guardium as its partner for protecting sensitive corporate, employee, and customer information,” said Ram Metser, Guardium CEO. “We believe that CTC is ideally suited to represent Guardium in the Japanese market, due to its extensive know-how and people resources, familiarity with business-critical applications and network infrastructures, and exceptional commitment to customer satisfaction.”
